The federal government has announced that five million farmers and their farms have been registered for fertiliser subsidy through the Presidential Fertiliser Initiative (PFI).
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Sabo Nanono, disclosed it at a stakeholders meeting in Abuja on Monday.
The PFI was a plan to benefit the farmers with sufficient distributions of fertilisers by President Muhammed Buhari. But there has been challenges and corruption affecting the fertiliser distribution which is said to be resolve with data base systems.
Sabo said during his speech that the organisation has developed a database for less privileged farmers to register their names and their farm GIS to ease the distribution of fertilizers. And so far about 5 million farmers have registered.
Mr Nanono also said the PFI has been restructured and a new regulatory plan developed to protect the farmers hard earned money from their farm produce.
