D’Tigers outshines South Sudan in AfroBasket qualifier opener

The Nigerian basketball team, D’Tigers won their first game against the South Sudan on Thursday in the Group D qualifier in Kigali, Rwanda.

The team won three quarters to beat South Sudan, 76-56. Caleb Agada gave the D’Tigers 16 points, and Iroegbu with 13 points. The first quarter ended 22-17 in favour of the Nigerians, who further outshines south Sudan in the second quarter with a 24-12 on scoreboard.

South Sudan won the third quarter with 20-15 on scoreboard but the Nigerians take charges in the fourth quarter with a 15-7 to end the game.

The new Nigerian coach, Mike Brown, who included Ike Iroegbu, Ike Diogu, Obi Emegano, Keith Omoerah, and Mike Gbinije to his starting five in his first match, result to a confident win for his side.

Brown who also just met most of his team players for the first time this week and is coaching in Africa has described the experience as an “exciting” one.

“The guys we have here are fantastic individuals, and obviously good ballers.”

Their next game for Nigeria will be against the hosts, Rwanda, on Saturday.
