The Government is not sincere with us over fuel hike- NLC

A council meeting was held with the Minister of Labour and Employment at the presidential Villa, Abuja over increment of fuel price.

As it’s said that the meeting didn’t went as planned as some of the meeting attendees left in frustration and agreed they could no longer bear attacks from the masses as government’s actions had placed them under huge risk.

At the meeting, Trade Union Congress President Quadri Olaleye said many of the labour leaders didn’t show up at the meeting because they were afraid of being attacked by the masses.

NLC Secretary Emmanuel Ugboaja, later in a chat with reporters, accused the government of insincerity.

He said: “We’ve had several meetings about increment and electricity tariffs but we were suddenly slammed with a new increase in petroleum prices and we felt that was beyond what we had as an understanding with the government.

“We want to address the issue of petroleum pricing before we begin to think of whether there is need for a palliative or not. On that strength, we felt we couldn’t continue the meeting with a government whose agenda was wrongly prioritised.

He also said When the government is ready to agree to their terms, they are ready to serve the country.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Ngige, has however planned to reinvite the labour leaders.
