Former EFA vice-president Ahmed Shobier has made a claim that the most popular title in African football has mysteriously been missing.
The Egyptian national team won the title between 2006 and 2010 when they lifted the AFCON title three times, giving them the opportunity to claim the floating trophy permanently.
However, the silverware that was achieved under the reign of legendary coach Hassan Shehata seems to been stolen a decade on.
“The EFA said they started looking for some trophies as they were kept in a notable museum inside the EFA,” Shobier said.
“However, the EFA was surprised finding out that the AFCON trophy was not found and decided to open an investigation.
“They were informed by an employee inside the association that the trophy was held by former Egypt captain, Ahmed Hassan, who has denied the claim. Nobody knows where the trophy is for the moment.
